The student will research evidenced-based approaches and published criteria for tumor testing indications that warrant additional germline follow-up and establish a set of genomic indicators to triage tumor testing results more effectively. These indicators will be mapped and tested as part of ongoing quality improvement projects. Students will evaluate and document outcomes for patients impacted by UCSF500 results, with special attention to access and address barriers or inequity in access. Students will support the laboratory’s internal processes/protocols for patients in need of further genomics services and/or follow up in UCSF Cancer Genetics and Prevention Program (CGPP) and Hereditary Cancer Clinic (HCC). This is an excellent opportunity to learn about lab genetic counseling and the intricacies of genomic testing and technologies, as well as coordinating between the laboratory and the clinical genetic counselling services.  Ideal candidates should have commitments to PRIDE values and desire to address inequities in genomics care and a drive to assess and improve current processes. Preferred candidates will have familiarity with clinical and laboratory operations, cancer genomics, NCCN genetic testing criteria, workflow implementation, medical records research, cancer genetic counseling, and experience working in operations and project management.
