It's no secret that San Francisco has become one of the nation's most expensive places to live. To bridge the financial gap for new and continuing students enrolled in degree programs who are not living in campus housing, UCSF created the need-based Cost of Living Supplement (COLS) program in 2016.
As new student housing opens up, the COLS program will be phased out. Click on the highlights in the interactive timeline below to see details about the planned housing construction and timing of the COLS phase-out. (You can also see a text version of the timeline.)
Please note: Dates, number of housing units, and funding distributions presented here are estimates based on projections as of August 2018 and are subject to revision based on unforeseen changes in the construction timeline and process, large swings in the Bay Area rental market, and other factors.
