UPDATE: Biden Debt Cancellation Temporarily Blocked - Applications not Currently being Accepted

November 15, 2022

President Biden’s Debt Cancellation program is temporarily blocked by the Eighth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The program is on hold while the court considers a motion from six Republican-led states to block the program. The White House has stopped accepting applications at this time. If the program is allowed to proceed Pell Grant recipients can receive up to $20,000 in debt forgiveness and $10,000 for non-Pell recipients. Individuals who made less than $125,000 in 2021 or 2020 or families that made less than $250,000 in 2021 or 2020 can qualify for the debt cancellation. If the court order is lifted, the deadline to submit the application is Dec. 31, 2023. More information on the announcement can be found here
