Activities may include:
- Update existing protocols, data collection tools, recruitment scripts, consent forms and/or intervention materials to test effectiveness of the ICAN peer support model via a RCT in Uganda
 - Code and anaylze qualitative data from interviews with women and their male partners in Uganda to understand impact of peer contraception mentorship program impact on couple dynamics (and contribute to manuscript development if avaialble/interested)
 - Synthesize results and lessons learned from four ICAN countries (Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, and Uganda) to create an evidence base and share learnings across donors and stakeholders
 
The intern will work closely with ICAN Project Director and team to update the project portfolio (data collection instruments and intervention materials) for the ICAN Uganda RCT and code interviews from existing ICAN Uganda qualitative program dataset. They may also contribute to creating memos and building an analytic framework to generate key themes and support manuscript development. They will also prepare ICAN materials (e.g., power point slide decks, reports, briefs, and other materials) for dissemination to the Gates Foundation and other stakeholders.
The ICAN Director will provide guidance and oversight for all tasks to ensure that the intern is learning and contributing to ICAN. If the intern would like to, there may be opportunities to present the work within UCSF, at external conferences, and/or to the Gates Foundation.
Desired experience/qualifications:
- Experience preparing/supporting development of human subject protocols and research instruments and related materials (i.e., recruitment scripts, consent forms)
 - Ability to read articles, briefs, data reports and identify relevant information to include in briefs, powerpoint slide decks, and/or peer-review manucsripts
 - Experience gathering complex information from multiple sources and presenting it in a coherent format (both quantitative and qualitative data)
 - Experience coding and analyzing qualitative data
 - Basic experience with Powerpoint, Word, Excel, etc.
 - Some experience creating visuals for slide decks (e.g., graphs, infographics, charts, etc.)
