$30 an hour
Commitment may range from 2.5- 5.0 hours per week, once a month, and may increase to 10.0 to 15.0 hours per month depending on the duties and as agreed upon with the Assistant Dean.

The GEPA Food Service Worker will be responsible for assisting with SF/Marin Foodbank shopping the day before the Pop-up Market, Foodbank pallet delivery arrival at the loading dock, unloading food at the dock on the day of the market, and setting up a Pop-Up Foodbank Market distribution site for food distribution to postdoctoral research scholars.  The Food Service Worker will complete required training to shop and distribute food, ensuring food safety and quality, and inspect food with the SF/Marin food item expiration dates in mind.  The Food Service Worker may assist with badge scanning for postdocs upon entry, oversee the assembly line arrangement for produce and pantry item pickup, ensure fair access to food through visual displays, and track postdocs' attendance at the distribution site for foodbank data reports.  The Food service worker will use agreed-upon and established sanitary food handling practices and ensure that the distribution site is clean and sanitary, and that any remaining food items are properly stored or disposed of according to UCSF disposal requirements using marked bins. The Food Market worker may also assist with breaking down boxes and preparing them for pick up or disposal. The goal of this program is to support postdoctoral scholars with supplemental nutrition and to reduce incidents of food insufficiency. To this end, the Food Service Worker may assist with event flyer development, event promotion on social channels and sign displays throughout the buildings on and in advance of market days. The workers will become a part of the GEPA Team and work with innovative leaders committed to improving the postdoc work/life experience, building community, and creating a more equitable and supportive environment for all postdocs. 

The position remains open in a continuous hiring cycle now through the 2026 calendar year.   This position is a Federal Work-Study award provided to students who demonstrate financial need and are U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents.
