$20 an hour

Variable, 5 – 7 hours per week, could include nights and weekend work

Based on a reputation of quality and service, Housing Services strives to be the housing destination of choice for eligible UCSF affiliates.  As a self-supporting auxiliary unit under Campus Life Services, Housing Services generates more than $16MM annually and has a $22MM reserve allocated to support renewal and capital projects.  Its rental income supports all operations, major maintenance and facility renewal, and new construction initiatives for its properties located at The Tidelands, Mission Bay, Mount Zion, Aldea San Miguel and along the Avenues at Parnassus. 

Duties & Responsibilities

The Housing Services Student Assistant will support assists the Meetings & Events Team with activities that take place in Housing’s meeting spaces across multiple campus locations. They will report to the Meetings & Events Manager and will help with the implementation of two areas under Housing Services:

  • Hosting an annual series of activities and events focused on enhancing Community, Diversity, Safety, Sustainability and Wellness among our Tenants.
  • Supporting a meeting space rental program intended to serve the Tenants and UCSF community and to serve as a supplemental revenue source.

Some common duties will include:

  • Evening Tenant Event support (be present, open doors, provide support, close up, put away items, etc).
  • Help with setting up events the evening before – light furniture moving, putting on linens, making sure the projector/screen is up/testing systems
  • Research for marketing and promotional materials related to programming and other messaging important to Tenants
  • Creating & designing promotional, marketing or programmatic materials for Tenant bulletin boards
  • Delivering and posting event flyers as needed and updating electronic signs and bulletin boards
  • Working as a Housing Services Ambassador as our tenants move into our communities

The Housing Services Student Assistant may also be asked provide general programmatic support to all of the functional areas of Housing Services: Administrative, Facilities, Finance and Projects. This support will often come in the form of general administrative responsibilities or receptionist help as needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Customer service experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse groups, including but not limited to students, staff, faculty, general public, production personnel, technical operators and performing artists.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull/carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Proven competency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Proven competency with MAC and PC applications and web browsers
  • Ability to work professionally under pressure and under tight deadlines ensuring excellent customer service support.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Event planning experience
  • Residential life or campus housing programming experience
  • Familiarity with marketing and design applications such as Adobe Suite (Examples: InDesign, Photoshop)
  • Familiarity with databases
  • Familiarity with electronic survey tools (Example: Qualtrics, Survey Monkey)
  • Preference for students who live in campus Housing
